Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
1-day short course
FMEA is a method to define, identify, prioritize and eliminate known and potential
failures of the system, design, or manufacturing process before they reach the
customer. There are eight steps to effective FMEA:
- Determine product or process functions
- For each function note the acceptable operating limits and its
sensitivity to aging, environment and manufacturing variability.
- Determine failure mode of each function
- Identify the potential effect of each failure.
- For each effect consider a severity or hazard.
- Determine the root cause(s) of the failure mode.
- Identify corrective actions
- Develop action plan
This course covers these eight steps in detail. By the end of this course, participants will be able to apply FMEA techniques to their products.
Benefits you can realize
- Clearer picture of assembly and component function
- Methodology for managing product failures based on cause
- Increased quality designed and manufactured into product
- Reduced time in product development
- Methodology for planning product changes to reduce product failures
Who should attend
-
Product/Process designers and managers
- Product/Process technology developers
- Research and Development engineers
- Others responsible for insuring product quality
